Hauptman Survey

In 2078, after extensive analysis of current and historical Ghost Rock mining trends, a geologist named Gerhard Hauptman published his findings in a report that became known as the Hauptman Survey. It was peer-reviewed and well-indexed, almost to the point of abstraction, but his conclusion was clear: the earth’s supply of ghost rock would be exhausted in about twenty years.

The findings of the Hauptman Survey set off a global panic. Ghost rock was already one of the world's most valuable minerals, and, as the news of the survey spread, prices and speculation soared worldwide. Nations began purchasing and stockpiling as much as possible, and, while the wealthier nations began to invest even further in Hellstromme Industries's mining activities in Faraway, smaller nations began or resumed land wars back on earth over the remaining richest lodes of ghost rock.
